Timeline of Events
1915
Yongfu Elementary School in Tainan was established during the Japanese colonial period.
1919
The school building was completed at the current site of Jianxing Junior High School.
1921 Renamed Tainan Nanmon Public Elementary School, primarily enrolling Japanese students.
August 1945
Following the end of World War II and Taiwan’s retrocession, the government appointed Zheng Bing-san as the first principal to take over the school.
December 1, 1945
The school relocated to its current address (No. 86, Section 2, Yongfu Road) and began enrolling local Taiwanese students, taking on the mission of national education.
March 1, 1946
Renamed Tainan Second National School (Central District).
February 1, 1947
Renamed Tainan Chenggong National School (Central District).
September 1947
Renamed Tainan Yongfu National School (Central District) due to its location on Yongfu Road. The school flourished due to its central location and strong educational demand.
Development and Expansion
March 1, 1948
Principal Lin Chiu-feng assumed office. Due to rapid student growth, enrollment exceeded 3,400 by 1955, leading to expansion of facilities.
December 26, 1952
Hu Shih visited his childhood residence located on campus and left a commemorative calligraphy inscription.
February 5, 1958
Principal Zhang Bei-shan took office and initiated unified campus planning and expansion.
1960–1962
New classrooms were added, improving teaching quality and increasing enrollment to over 5,200 students.
Educational Reform and Growth
August 1, 1968
Renamed Tainan Yongfu Elementary School (Central District) following the implementation of nine-year compulsory education.
May 15, 1969
Yongfu Hall was completed, serving as a multifunctional facility for sports, arts, and community events.
The school established:
- A baseball team (achieved international success, including Little League World Series championship players)
- A judo team (multiple national championships and international exchanges in Japan)
Modernization and Innovation
1977–1978
Gifted education and music programs were introduced and later formalized.
1986
Launched the Yongfu Little Scholar Award to promote reading and writing.
1990
Constructed the first rubber track field among elementary and junior high schools in Tainan.
1995–2000
Significant upgrades:
- Computer education introduced
- Campus-wide communication systems installed
- Major reconstruction of Yongfu Hall (completed in 2001)
Digital and Infrastructure Development
2002–2004
- Campus-wide internet access established
- Upgraded to fiber-optic network
- Computer equipment modernization
2009
Established digital classrooms and e-learning facilities.
2010–2012
- Reconstruction of school buildings
- Completion of Yongxin Building and new library
